Nani set to leave Man United with Roma interested

Nani’s agent has revealed that the Man United star could quit Old Trafford this summer and move to Italy, with Roma his likely destination according to The Metro.

The Portuguese midfielder has been the subject of much speculation following a poor 2012-13 campaign, and he is yet to receive any assurances about potential playing time next season under the new regime of David Moyes.

Real Madrid, Juventus and Arsenal have all been touted as potential new clubs for the former Sporting Lisbon winger, but Roma now appears a more likely option after his agent, Jorge Mendes, told Radio Mana of their interest.

“Nani is a good player – the whole world knows it,” said Mendes.

“Will he go to Roma? Why not? Serie A is one of the best leagues in the world and Rome is a beautiful city. There is the possibility that he will leave United, but at the minute nothing is concrete.”

“We will meet Manchester United and see, but there is interest.”

The Metro also understands, however, that the meeting with United has already taken place, and Moyes was unable to assure the 26-year-old of guaranteed first team football next term.

Nani has already indicated that he will not be signing a new contract at Old Trafford, and his current deal expires next summer. United are thought to consider now the right time to cash in on their midfielder, who had previously looked like signing for Galatasaray last month before the Turkish club refused to meet United’s £8.5m asking price.

Nani arrived at United in 2007 for a fee of around €25.5m, and has made 133 appearances in the famous red shirt, scoring 26 goals.
