Newcastle line up Gomis and Gignac to replace Russia-bound Cisse

Papiss Cisse could be on his way to Russia after describing Newcastle’s shirt sponsorship deal as “immoral”, reports The Mirror.

The 28-year-old has previously refused to wear any Newcastle shirt emblazoned with the “Wonga” logo, as he feels uncomfortable promoting a payday loan company based on religious grounds – he is a practising Muslim.

He has been fined by the club for his stance, as he refused to travel to Portugal on the Toon Army’s pre-season tour. Russian outfit Rubin Kazan are thought to be leading the chase for the hitman, who has impressed during his time on Tyneside.

With Cisse’s days at St. James’ Park now looking numbered, manager Alan Pardew has lined up replacements in French strikers Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre-Pierre Gignac, with a £15m-plus package said to be being planned.

Gomis is said to be an Aston Villa target as well, but with the French contingent at Newcastle it is believed the north east would be his preferred move. With only a single year to run on his contract, the Geordies are hoping an offer of around £5m will convince Lyon to do business.

Gignac would likely cost nearer £10m, though it is believed that he would be much harder to tempt away from his current club, as he is enjoying life at Marseille.

Cisse arrived at Newcastle in 2012, and has scored 21 goals in 50 competitive games for the Toon thus far.
