Newcastle line up PSV youngster Zoet as goalkeeping cover

Newcastle United are lining up PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet as back-up to Tim Krul and Rob Elliot, after the retirement of veteran custodian Steve Harper Sky Sports are reporting.

The 22-year-old has yet to make his first team bow at PSV, but the young stopper has impressed in two separate stints on loan at other Eredivisie outfit RKC Waalwijk.

Zoet is currently the No.1 for the Netherlands Under-21s and recently travelled with the side on their European Championship campaign to Israel. The youngster also received his first call-up to the Dutch national team in November 2012 but has yet to appear for the Oranje.

However Zoet has developed and flourished whilst on loan at Waalwijk, making 73 appearances for the club altogether, 38 of those matches coming last season. The stopper is contracted to PSV until the summer of 2014, which may mean the Magpies may be able to get their man for less than his relatively modest £2m price tag.
