Newcastle ready to move for Remy

Newcastle are lining up a bid for Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy that could see the Magpies offer defender Steven Taylor in part-exchange, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Manager Alan Pardew would also include a £6m fee in the bid for the France striker, having missed out on Wigan Athletic forward Arouna Kone. Kone followed former Latics boss Roberto Martinez to Everton in a move that was confirmed on Monday.

Pardew’s QPR counterpart Harry Redknapp is said to want Taylor to fill the void left by Christopher Samba, who has returned to Anzhi Makhachkala, and Taylor has been told he can leave Newcastle by Pardew, the newspaper claims. Taylor is not guaranteed a starting place at Newcastle, the Mirror adds, while Remy is keen to play in the Premier League having only joined the R’s in January.

Remy made 14 appearances for QPR following his mid-season move from Marseille, scoring six goals, but was unable to prevent Redknapp’s side slipping out of the top flight. QPR ended the season bottom of the table with 25 points from their 38 games.
