Pellegrini makes Negredo his prime target

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is extremely interested in signing Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo, with negotiations between the player and Atletico Madrid experiencing complications in recent days, reports Spanish daily Marca.

Negredo is one of three players requested by Pellegrini to Man City upon his arrival in June, the first of which being winger Jesus Navas, who City have already signed from Sevilla, and Malaga striker Isco – whom Pellegrini managed at Malaga – who chose to join Real Madrid over City. Other than Navas, the club have already added Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho to their squad.

However, they are lacking in numbers in attack, which is one of the main aspects of the team that the Chilean is looking to address, with Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko the only forward options.

Negotiations appear to be currently on-going with Sevilla and 27-year-old Negredo, who scored 31 goals in 42 appearances last season. £25m is the fee being mooted, with an offer expected in the coming hours.

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido seems willing to allow Negredo to move for £25m, with a good relationship with City sporting director Txiki Begiristain perhaps a factor in the deal.
