Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has said he would be excited to see Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale move to the Santiago Bernabeu as Bale has the capacity to be a match winner, the
Casillas was reluctant to speak too much about Bale despite Madrid being strongly and persistently linked with a move for the 24-year-old but Casillas was willing to concede that Bale is among the most impressive players in football at the moment.
“He is one of the best three or four players in Europe,” Casillas said, adding: “All these big transfers are controversial for good or bad reasons, but he is a player who decides games. I am sure there will be a new player with us before the transfer window closes.”
Casillas, the Madrid captain, also chose not to criticise former manager Jose Mourinho, now at Chelsea, after a season of turmoil at the Santiago Bernabeu that saw Casillas dropped from the starting XI. Invited to compare the merits of Mourinho with his successor, former Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain tactician Carlo Ancelotti, Casillas took the diplomatic route.
“It is too soon to comment on the differences between the new coach and the old, the 32-year-old said.
“We have to thank Mourinho for what he achieved but we should not be looking back; we should be looking forward at a new era in which hopefully the club will be winning things.”
