Real Madrid’s Higuain still looking to join Arsenal

According to Marca, Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is still hoping to join Arsenal, who have targeted the Argentine throughout the summer. Higuain is said to be waiting for a new bid from the Gunners after their initial offer was rejected, reports Calcio Mercato.

An agreement has been reached a principle between Arsenal and the player’s agent, as Higuain now waits for Arsenal to make an improved offer, as their first was below Real Madrid’s valuation. Carlo Ancelotti’s side appear willing to sell Higuain, who is one of many attacking options at the Bernabeu, and a move away for the 25-year-old is looking likely.

Italian side Napoli have also registered their interest in Higuain by making a bid of €37m, with an added bonus of €3m. However, unlike on Monday, where a deal seemed close to being struck, it now appears less likely that he will join Rafael Benitez’ side as they seek a replacement for Edinson Cavani. Cavani this summer moved to Paris Saint-Germain.

Higuain made 44 appearances last season, scoring 18 goals, and he still has three years to run on his current contract.
