Redknapp to trump Premier League interest and bring Hooper to QPR

Gary Hooper looks set for a £5m move to Championship side Queens Park Rangers, the Daily Mail has reported, despite the Celtic striker also attracting Premier League interest from the likes of Norwich and Hull.

Redknapp is in the midst of rebuilding the QPR team in an effort to restore top flight football at the first time of asking and, as part of that process, has allowed three strikers – Djibril Cisse, Jay Bothroyd and DJ Campbell – to leave Loftus Road. The manager has as a result convinced owner Tony Fernandes that Hooper is the right man to bring in.

Hooper is expected to join the London club despite having the chance to again play in the Champions League with Celtic, the newspaper notes. Bhoys manager Neil Lennon confirmed that Hooper would be on the move this summer – saying “It will be hard to convince him to stay” – but did not reveal his likely destination.

The 25-year-old has been a Celtic player since the summer of 2010, moving to Scotland from Scunthorpe United. Hooper also played for Grays Athletic, Southend, Leyton Orient and Hereford and has netted 82 goals in 136 games for the Scottish champions.
