Roma’s Pjanic targeted by Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur are to step up their pursuit of Roma’s Bosnian international attacking midfielder Miralem Pjanic, who is rated at £20m, according to the Daily Mail, with Barcelona also interested.

Pjanic is the latest Roma player to be linked with a move away. Daniele de Rossi has been made available for transfer, while Pablo Osvaldo appears likely to leave. The 23-year-old Pjanic joined Roma from Lyon in 2011, and has gone on to score six goals in 57 league appearances for the club.

Spurs have extensively scouted Pjanic, who was close to joining Arsenal before he moved to the Italian capital. The White Hart Lane club expect to announce the signing of Brazil midfielder Paulinho in the coming days, and although several strikers are on manager Andre Villas-Boas’ radar, he also has his attention on bringing in another attacking midfielder.

Star player Gareth Bale, Lewis Holtby, Clint Dempsey, and Gylfi Sigurdsson are Spurs’ current options in attacking midfield areas, and Villas-Boas is looking for Pjanic to add more quality to the side. Pjanic, who can also play on the right-wing, or in central midfield, has 40 caps for his country, scoring eight goals, with Bosnia looking likely to qualify for next year’s World Cup.
