Rooney wants Chelsea move after being left angry and confused at Man Utd

Wayne Rooney wants to leave Manchester United for Chelsea, the Daily Mirror has reported, after comments by new manager David Moyes left the player “angry and confused” according to the newspaper.

Rooney is upset that Moyes announced that he effectively sees Rooney as a squad player – cover for Robin van Persie – with Rooney said to feel that he is being forced out of Old Trafford – tantamount to constructive dismissal following almost six months of gossip that started when Sir Alex Ferguson said Rooney had issued a transfer request and asked to be left out of the final game of the season, something denied by the Rooney camp.

The 27-year-old went so far as to contact the club for clarification on Moyes’ comments. The two have a stormy history dating back to their time at Everton, before Rooney moved to United in the summer of 2004. Moyes later took legal action against Rooney for comments made in his book, that Moyes effectively forced Rooney out of Everton by leaking stories to the local press, which Moyes strenuously denied.

Rooney would prefer a move to Chelsea over a switch to Arsenal but United would be more willing to sell to the Gunners than the Blues – seeing Chelsea as more of a title rival. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has yet to make a bid for Rooney but Rooney has now suggested he feels he cannot play on at United, paving the way for an exit to one of the two London clubs.
