Round hails Man Utd colleague Giggs

Manchester United assistant manager Steve Round has spoken of his delight to be working in close quarters with Ryan Giggs, Sky Sports has reported, after the midfielder was named as player-coach under new manager David Moyes.

Round went so far as to say that Giggs is the best player he has worked with – despite having been in his position at Old Trafford for less than a month after following Moyes from Everton when Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down.

Moyes appointed Giggs to his coaching staff and Round has been strongly impressed by what he has seen so far. “To have Ryan as a player and a coach is terrific,” Round said, adding: “Somebody asked me the other day who is the best footballer I’ve ever worked with. My immediate answer was Ryan Giggs – and I’ve only worked with him for a few weeks.

He’s arguably the best Premier League player there has ever been and working so closely with him makes you realise even more what a top footballer he is.

Having him on the staff is going to be vital when it comes to being able to confide in him and ask for his opinion on things. He has that experience of the United way and what it takes to win here. We’re getting the best of both worlds having him as a player and a coach.

Giggs has been joined on the United staff by former teammate Phil Neville, who began his career at United before moving to Everton in 2005 to play under Moyes. After retiring at the end of the season, Neville was appointed by Moyes, and, at 36, is three years younger than Giggs.
