Spurs target Neilton set for Santos contract talks

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing the promising 19-year-old Santos winger, Neilton, have been dealt a bitter blow according to the Daily Express, as Andre Villas-Boas frantically works to improve his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

The North London club were believed to have offered £7 million for his services, however, Neilton, branded the ‘new Neymar’ by many in his home country of Brazil, has categorically denied that he has heard of any interest from representatives at White Hart Lane.

The Santos president has also got involved in the saga by insisting that talks are already underway between Neilton and Santos, as to the signing of a new contract.

Rodrigues told UOL: “There are already talks to renew his contract,” he continued. “They have started and we have scheduled a meeting already.”

Santos’ eagerness to tie the 19-year-old down to an extended contract stems from the fact that season-upon-season; Europe’s biggest clubs are raiding Brazil in order to get the very best talent.

Santos know all too well about it, with Neymar departing the club earlier on this summer to apply his trade in La Liga with Barcelona, they’re determined not to let that happen again.
