Controversial Liverpool striker Luis Suarez is being backed in some quarters to make a summer move to Arsenal, with some bookmakers now suspending betting on the Uruguayan heading for the Emirates Stadium, according to Sky
Suarez has mainly been linked with clubs outside of England, with Real Madrid remaining the favourites to sign him, but Arsenal have now emerged as surprise contenders for his signature after a flurry of bets on the move coming out of Spain.
The Gunners appear to be close to signing Real’s Gonzalo Higuain, and are now rated at 7/4 to take Suarez from Liverpool, whom the former Ajax man is expected to leave. Currently serving a ten match ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, Suarez has been no stranger to controversy and media attention since joining the Reds from The Netherlands in January 2011.
Suarez has spoken previously of his disappointment at his treatment by the English media, and his wish to move to the Bernabeu. Also, with Higuain looking likely to join Arsene Wenger’s side, Real Madrid still appears Suarez’ most likely destination, if he was to leave Liverpool.
