Talks are set to begin between Arsenal and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, according to the Daily
On Wednesday, Arsenal made a bid of £40m plus £1 for Suarez, which was rejected, though it triggered a clause in his contract which meant that he was informed of the offer by Liverpool. However, the Reds value Suarez at over £50m, meaning they will remain unwilling to sell until they receive an acceptable offer.
Suarez has been intent on leaving Anfield throughout the summer, publically stating his ambitions to play for Real Madrid. Arsenal, however, have been the only club to express serious interest. And as they are set to lose out on fellow striking target Gonzalo Higuain, their interest looks set to increase even more.
In response to the situation, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said: ‘In the coming weeks we need to get him up to speed to ensure he’s fit and raring to go for the beginning of the season. I have nothing to report on Arsenal’s bid.
‘The only talks there have been are between Luis and myself. The market nowadays for top players is very small. Luis will always be linked with top clubs’.
