Swansea to play Hibs or Malmo in Europa League

Capital One Cup winners Swansea have found out who they will face in their Europa League third-round qualifying match. Sky Sports has reported that the winners of the match between Hibernian and Swedish outfit Malmo will meet the Swans in the next round. In order to progress though Hibs will need to overturn a 2-0 deficit at their Easter Road ground, after they lost the first leg of the second-round tie.

Success in the final of the League Cup meant that the Swans entered into the third-round qualifying stages of the Europa League. The Welshmen will host the first leg of the tie and could face a battle of Britain encounter should the Hibees manage to overcome the odds in Edinburgh.

The Liberty Stadium side last tasted European competition in 1991 after winning the Welsh Cup, though their Cup Winners’ Cup campaign ended with an emphatic 10-1 loss at the hands of Monaco, then managed by Arsene Wenger.

The draw has also seen Motherwell pitted against Russia’s Kuban Krasnodar while St Johnstone face a trip to either Malta to face Valletta or Belarus against FC Minsk.
