However, even if Spurs sign the Villa player they might be in the market to strengthen the front line further especially if, as is strongly rumoured, Emmanuel Adebayor leaves for Turkey. The question is who will the focus turn to?
One player that may be considering his options is Paris Saint-Germain’s Kevin Gameiro. With the French club having added Edison Cavani to a forward line already containing Gameiro himself, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the French forward may ask himself what future he has at the club. Even if Ibrahimovic is sold, Cavani would appear to be ahead of Gameiro in the pecking order.
At 26-years-old Gameiro should be looking for more opportunities, particularly if he wants to build on his eight international caps with a World Cup coming. Last season Gameiro only started seven games in Ligue 1 [he made a further 18 substitute appearances] and scored eight times.
Last season may not have been representative of Gameiro’s abilities with the Frenchman enduring a stop start season in the shadow of Ibrahimovic. The previous season he scored 11 goals in 27 starts. It is his period at Lorient though that may give the better indication of what he can achieve – there he scored 50 goals in 108 appearances.
