Tottenham and Everton fighting for Barcelona winger Deulofeu

Tottenham Hotspur and Everton both want to sign 19-year-old Barcelona winger Gerard Deulofeu on loan for next season, the Daily Mirror has reported.

Deulofeu scored 18 goals for the Barcelona B team last season but is eager to make the step up to top flight football. Yet his path to the Barca first team is currently blocked so a loan move is the next best option with the Premier League his preferred destination – all with an eye to improving as a player and strengthening his chances of making the Barcelona first team.

Tottenham Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas saw Deulofeu during his time in between clubs, after leaving Chelsea but before joining Spurs, but Deulofeu is an admirer of the way Roberto Martinez approaches the game and is thought to believe he would get more playing time under Martinez at Everton.

Liverpool had previously been in the hunt for Deulofeu but have brought in other targets already this summer, and are now concentrating on the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and resolving the future of Luis Suarez, potentially paving the way for Deulofeu to head to Goodison Park instead.

Deulofeu is currently on international duty with the Spain Under-20 side at the Under-20 World Cup. Deulofeu has helped Spain to the quarter-finals thus far, where they ply Uruguay, netting a brace in Spain’s opening group game win over the United States. The match ended 4-1 and put Spain on track to top the group with three wins from three games.
