Tottenham boss Villas-Boas wanted by Monaco

Monaco are preparing to try and tempt Andre Villas-Boas away from Tottenham Hotspur, the Daily Mail has reported, despite the Portuguese previously insisting he wants to remain at White Hart Lane for at least another year.

Villas-Boas has had four different clubs in as many years, the newspaper notes, and the ex-Chelsea Coach wants to lay down roots at Tottenham, having been hired by Daniel Levy to replace Harry Redknapp a year ago despite struggling in his previous Premier League post at Stamford Bridge.

Paris Saint-Germain made overtures towards Villas-Boas as they searched for a successor to Carlo Ancelotti, eventually appointing Laurent Blanc to replace the Real Madrid-bound Italian, while Madrid are also said to have considered Villas-Boas before turning to the ex-Milan boss.

Monaco have engaged in a summer of lavish transfer spending, funded by Russian billionaire Dmitry Ryblovlev, and there is a distinct Portuguese flavour to the principality club’s business. Among the arrivals are a trio with Porto connections, James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho, signed from Porto, and Radamel Falcao, bought from Atletico Madrid but a former Porto player. All three played under Villas-Boas at Porto, winning the Europa League, domestic title and domestic cup in 2010/11.
