Aston Villa captain Ron Vlaar has said that he hopes that the club can carry on improving after their strong finish to last season which saw them manage to avoid relegation, Sky
Paul Lambert’s side looked likely candidates for the drop throughout last season, before an impressive late run, which included wins over Stoke City and Norwich City, along with a 6-1 thrashing of Sunderland, helping the club to the security of 15th place.
And Vlaar believes that the club can build on that form. He said: “The team improved and the way we played together got better. You could see that with the results. We want that to continue next season. We are excited. We are looking forward. The fans got some great moments in the last few months and they want to see more of that. We want to give them more of that.”
Despite the ongoing speculation over the future of want-away striker Christian Benteke, whose goals were a significant factor in Villa’s survival, Lambert has already been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing six players including Sevilla left-back Antonio Lun, and Aalborg striker Nicklas Helenius, with the club optimistic of achieving a stronger position next season.
