Wenger refuses to be drawn on Arsenal interest in Suarez

During a press conference ahead his side’s pre-season tour of Asia, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has refused to comment on speculation concerning a bid from the club for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, reports ESPN.

Arsenal have already had a bid in the region of £30m rejected by Liverpool, and although the Gunners are lining up another offer, thought to be £35m, the Merseyside club have responded by saying that only bids of at least £40m will be considered.

As Reds manager Brendan Rodgers continues to communicate with Suarez in an attempt to persuade the Uruguayan to stay at Liverpool, Wenger has faced questions on Arsenal’s bid, commenting: “Suarez? As you know the transfer period demands secrets and confidentiality, so I can’t answer the question.

Despite his reluctance to discuss the situation concerning Suarez, at the same time, Wenger has not ruled out bringing him to Arsenal after two and-a-half years with Liverpool.

Wenger has already added Auxerre’s Yaya Sanogo to his striking options this summer, and is also thought to be close to sealing a deal for Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain.
