Anelka is currently a free agent after his six-month spell at Serie A champions Juventus came to an end, while his last appearance in English football came for Chelsea, shortly before the former France captain left Stamford Bridge for Shanghai Shenhua in China.
The 34-year-old’s time in China lasted only 12 months, however, with a temporary loan at Juventus arranged, taking the number of different countries Anelka has played in to six. Anelka has also appeared for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, La Liga for Real Madrid, and the Turkish top flight with heavyweights Fenerbahce, as well as extensive Premier League experience.
Anelka’s time in English football began with Arsenal, before taking in Liverpool, Manchester City, Bolton Wanderers and Chelsea, scoring a total of 160 goals in 460 games. The Mail adds West Brom are keen to be Anelka’s sixth English employer as they are in the market for free transfers, while Head Coach Steve Clarke knows Anelka from their Chelsea days.
