Jack Wilshere has revealed that he and his Arsenal teammates are excited by some of the names mentioned as possible new signings for the Gunners this summer, Sky
Luis Suarez, the Liverpool striker, and Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain are two of the players most strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, and Wilshere feels the momentum such a signing would provide – combined with the instability among last season’s top three – will work in Arsenal’s favour in the new season.
“Everyone at the training ground has been talking about big-name signings,” Wilshere said, adding: “It would give us all such a massive lift. Not just the players but the staff and everybody connected to Arsenal.
“Everything has changed at the other top-four clubs. Alex Ferguson has gone, Chelsea and City have new managers so we have to set our targets high,” the England midfielder continued.
Arsenal finished fourth last season after a strong run of form towards the end of the campaign delivered Champions League football – and Wilshere believes the results gained in the latter part of last season show that Arsenal can compete at the very top of the table. “ Now the goal is to play with that kind of consistency all season. If we can, we can definitely win something,” the 21-year-old said.
