The fee for the Brazil international is said to be in the region of £14m, with Gustavo choosing the Gunners over Chelsea and Wolfsburg, according to the newspaper. Gustavo was part of the triumphant Brazil squad at this summer’s Confederations Cup, and of the all-conquering Bayern Munich team that won the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League last season.

The Frenchman added that he still hoped to make Luis Suarez Arsenal’s headline arrival, and is pleased not to have lost any major names as he has in years past. “I also haven’t given up hope on Suarez. “I am an optimist. That’s why I do this job. We have kept the squad together for the first time in many years so I am happy.”
