Arsenal have made a bid to sign Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye, according to Sky
So far, only Yaya Sanogo, a young French striker from Auxerre, has joined the club this summer, despite Arsenal being linked with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain and Luiz Gustavo, who have both moved to other clubs. And supporters are urging manager Arsene Wenger to spend some money, after the opening day defeat to Aston Villa.
Wenger, however, has insisted that he does expect new arrivals before the transfer deadline on September 2, and Cabaye now looks to be one of his main targets. Arsenal already have several central midfielders, including Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Jack Wilshere, although the Gunners are suffering with a long injury list.
Cabaye joined Newcastle from the then French champions Lille in the summer of 2011, and has impressed during his time in the North East, forging a strong midfield partnership with Ivorian Cheick Tiote. He has scored 11 goals in 73 appearances, and has made 11 assists.
Several clubs have been linked with the 27-year-old, who has 23 international caps, including French champions Paris St. Germain.
