Bale tells Wales teammates he has played last game for Tottenham

Gareth Bale has told his Wales teammates that he will not play another game for Tottenham Hotspur, ESPN has reported, as Bale grows discontented at his club’s refusal to agree a deal to sell him to Real Madrid.

A source in the Wales national team is reported as saying: “Gareth is confused and bitter. He can’t understand why Spurs have not agreed what would be the largest transfer fee in history.

How could any player not be affected when he knows one of the world’s biggest clubs has made a huge bid but that the deal isn’t progressing? One thing’s certain, he’ll not play for Spurs again.

Madrid are said to have offered a world record fee to Tottenham for Bale but the Premier League club are holding out for the best possible deal, although it appears senior figures at Madrid – including president Florentino Perez and Coach Carlo Ancelotti – are taking the stance that Bale might not be needed by the Spanish club, or worth the sums of money bandied about. Spurs, meanwhile, are said to doubt Madrid are willing or able to pay the fee discussed.

Wales play the Republic of Ireland in a friendly on Wednesday evening, with Bale unlikely to take part due to a foot injury, although he has joined up with the national team.
