Barcelona are expecting Chelsea defender David Luiz to tell new manager Jose Mourinho that he wants to move to the Catalan giants in order to push through a move, reports The
Barcelona are interested in taking the Brazilian defender to the Nou Camp, but Mourinho is adamant that the 26-year-old will remain at Stamford Bridge this season.
The Spanish club opened discussions by making an initial bid on Wednesday, but the offer was rejected with the Portuguese manager warning them not to waste their time by coming back in with another bid.
Mourinho said: “The bid? It’s lost time for them. My advice to them is to go to the second player on their list because they are wasting their time. We don’t want to lose our best players. No chance.”
However, Barca feel that this is just a game of hard-to-get, and remain convinced that Mourinho made such a statement in order to trigger a huge offer from them in a test of stubborn resolve.
They also hope that Luiz’s desire to move to the Nou Camp will help smooth a deal through, though they have identified Liverpool defender Daniel Agger as Plan B should they fail to lure the Chelsea defender.
Agger, however, has only recently been appointed Jamie Carragher’s successor as vice-captain at Anfield, and as a result he too may prove difficult to prise away from his present Premier League employers.
