Ben Arfa targets top five with Newcastle

Hatem Ben Arfa hopes Newcastle can record a top five Premier League finish this season despite opening the new campaign with a heavy defeat against Manchester City, Sky Sports has reported.

The Magpies were dragged into a relegation scrap last season having finished fifth the year before, and have struggled to add to their squad over the summer with only Loic Remy joining on loan from Queens Park Rangers.

But Ben Arfa is not put off – indeed the French playmaker believes Newcastle should be looking at the very least at a top half finish, and are capable of doing even better than that and returning to the top five.

Our objective is to finish in the top 10 and I hope we can finish top five,” Ben Arfa said. “That is going to be tough but I’m confident. The Manchester City game has gone and now we have to turn out attention to West Ham on Saturday.

I will be doing everything for the team to maybe repeat what we did two years ago. We will be stronger than last year. There’s confidence in the squad. We think we can do something good this season.
