Sweden striker Johan Elmander has joined the exciting influx of new signings at Norwich City this summer after arriving from Turkish club Galatasaray on a season-long loan deal. The 32-year old joins a group of strikers at Carrow Road that includes big name summer signings Ricky van Wolfwinkel and Gary Hooper, in one of the most exciting forward units outside the top-four.
Elmander brings plenty of Premier League experience with him from his time at Bolton before his move to Galatasaray, where he upset
The Sweden international left England in 2011 after his contract at the Reebok Stadium expired, but now returns to the Premier League after Chris Hughton managed to secure the striker’s services on a one-year loan deal. While possibly not signed as someone who will start every match, Elmander will offer the Norwich manager a real threat from the bench.
“I’m really delighted to bring in a player of Johan’s experience, not only at club and Premier League level but as a current international. It’s great to welcome him to our squad,” said the Norwich manager.
With van Woldwinkel, Hooper and now Elmander available to Hughton, this season could well see Norwich be genuine contenders for a top-10 finish, possibly even a Europa League spot if the three strikers can live up to all the hype.
Merely avoiding relegation was last season’s only focus for Norwich, but the club’s board will be expecting significantly more from Hughton’s men this year after backing the manager with so many big-money signings this summer.
