Eto’o to complete Chelsea move and be reunited with Mourinho

Samuel Eto’o is set to complete his move to Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala, ESPN has reported, and be reunited with Jose Mourinho after the pair were together at Inter, winning the Champions League in 2010.

The European crown came as part of an historic treble, with Mourinho’s Inter also claiming the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia. Mourinho left for Real Madrid shortly after the Champions League was added to the trophy cabinet while Eto’o joined Anzhi in 2011, becoming the highest-paid player in the world in the process.

But after Anzhi’s owner, Suleiman Kerimov, announced he was to withdraw his funding of the club, the Russian side set about shifting the highest-earners from the wage bill – which has led to Chelsea signing Brazil playmaker Willian on a five-year contract. Eto’o is expected to put pen to paper on a one-year, £100,000 per week deal, for a £5m fee.

Mourinho moved for Eto’o after it became clear he could not prise Wayne Rooney away from Manchester United. And Eto’o has jumped at the chance to again play under the Portuguese, saying in August: “There is only one Jose Mourinho. I have played under a lot of great coaches – but there is no other character in the game like Jose.

Chelsea have started the season unbeaten under Mourinho, who left Madrid in the summer to return to Stamford Bridge, almost six years after he first departed the Premier League side.
