Everton and Bordeaux to battle to sign Wigan defender Beausejour

Everton could face competition from French side Bordeaux for the signature of Wigan star Jean Beausejour, reports The Express.

The Chilean international is on the radar of Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park, who remains keen to be reunited with the man he managed whilst in charge at Wigan until his appointment on Merseyside in May.

According to France Football, Bordeaux have been informed of Beausejour’s situation at Wigan and are now contemplating entering the race to sign the 29-year-old.

The player joined Wigan in January 2012 following a spell with Birmingham City, and was utilised as a left wing-back during the second half of last season, a role in which he established his credentials in the FA Cup winners’ starting lineup.

Martinez is keen to sign Beausejour for a second time with speculation still hanging over the future of highly rated defender Leighton Baines, and the Chilean is seen as something of an insurance policy who could go on to replace the Englishman at Everton should Baines seek to follow David Moyes to Man United.
