Roberto Martinez wants to offer Manchester City outcast Gareth Barry an escape route to Everton, the
Barry has been told by Manuel Pellegrini he can leave the Etihad Stadium in this transfer window and was not part of the 18-man squad that faced Newcastle on Monday in City’s Premier League opener. City won the game 4-0 through goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri.
Everton want to take Barry on loan for the final year of his £100,000 per week City contract but would need to reach a compromise with his club over his wage packet. Arsenal are also considering a move for Barry as they seek midfield cover but it is thought that Everton are leading the chase for the ex-Aston Villa player.
Barry joined City from Villa in the summer of 2009, forming part of the 2011-12 title winning team under Roberto Mancini. He made more than 400 appearances for the Midlands club and has featured more than 150 times for City, as well as winning more than 50 England caps since his debut as a 19-year-old in May 2000 against Ukraine.
