Aston Villa striker Darren Bent has looked to Fulham to resurrect his Premier League career after Newcastle ended their interest, according to ESPN.
ESPN are reporting that the 29-year-old front man and his agent had met with Newcastle director of football Joe Kinnear regarding the player’s possible move north. However it is claimed that Bent was angered at the fact that the Magpies were only prepared to offer £2m for his services.
Villa are also thought to be keen on the Fulham move as it would mean that they would be able to claim back a larger portion of their £24m outlay to bring in the player in 2011.
Fulham had an initial offer for the player turned down earlier in the summer; however they are now believed to be ready to make a second attempt for the hit-man. Martin Jol’s side are also in pole position to land the striker as it is claimed that they are more likely to pay his £65,000-a-week wages.
