The Irishman is facing a race against time to be fit for the game at Carrow Road and is receiving extensive treatment at Finch Farm in a bid to make a quick comeback, having sustained the injury ahead of a pre-season fixture against Real Betis.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez told the club’s website: “
“Knowing Darron, maybe he has got a chance for Saturday but it’s a little bit of a concern because he will need treatment and we’ll see how that knee reacts over the next 48 to 72 hours.”
Should Gibson miss Saturday’s game, Martinez will have few options to choose from, with long-serving Leon Osman, and youngster Ross Barkley, who has impressed in pre-season, looking the obvious central midfield pairing, with Marouane Fellaini likely to play further forward.
