Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud wants the club to make some new signings before the transfer window closes on September 2, according to the Daily
The Gunners were expected to invest heavily after chief executive Ivan Gazidis claimed there were large funds available to manager Arsene Wenger. However, only Yaya Sanogo, a 20-year-old striker signed on a free transfer from Auxerre, has arrived at the Emirates Stadium this summer, while the club has missed out on at least two high profile transfer targets.
Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain looked set to join, only to sign for Napoli instead, and more recently, Brazil international Luiz Gustavo, who was also linked, moved to Wolfsburg. Wenger has also seen to bids turned down for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
The Arsenal supporters made their feelings known during the opening day Premier League defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday, and Giroud believes the club needs to bring a new striker in. He said: “In my opinion, it’s necessary for the club to recruit another striker.
“Obviously, I think about it a little bit. It may change the play one day, especially if it’s a high profile signing. It’s useless lamenting this though. I know what I have to do and what I’m capable of. I’m focusing on me and my work. The coach is counting on me, so I don’t think too much.”
