Liverpool target Costa in no rush to leave Atletico

Liverpool’s hopes of signing Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa have been dealt a blow after the Brazil international revealed he is no hurry to leave La Liga, the Daily Mirror has reported.

The Reds are said to have offered just under £22m for the 24-year-old but Costa says not only is he unaware of the interest from the Premier League club, he sees no reason to leave his current employers. “I’m well here, I’m happy here,” he reportedly told AS.

As I’ve been in Argentina and Uruguay, I’ve not heard anything about this,” Costa continued, adding: “I’m happy here, if the club want me to be here, I’m going to be here. I think that the coach (Diego Simeone) counts on all of us, not just me. He knows how important it is to maintain the squad, the fans know it as well.

Costa has recently returned from a pre-season tour of South America with Atleti, having scored 20 goals in 44 games for his club last season. Costa has been at the Vicente Calderon since 2006, spending time on loan at Rayo Vallecano, among others, and was in 2009 sold to Real Vallodolid, only to be re-signed by Atletico in 2010.
