Brendan Rodgers will look to sign Mamadou Sakho from Paris Saint-Germain in an effort to add more options to the Liverpool defence, the
Sakho is a France international with 14 caps to his name and came through the PSG academy, making his first team bow in 2007 as a 17-year-old, going on to captain the club later that same season and becoming the youngest skipper in the club’s history. To date, Sakho has made close to 200 appearances for PSG. His international debut came in 2010 as a substitute against England.
Rodgers’ need for defensive reinforcements was exacerbated by goings-on in Liverpool’s 4-2 extra-time Capital One Cup victory over Notts County on Tuesday, when left-back Aly Cissokho limped out of the match early and Kolo Toure was stretchered off with what Rodgers confirmed was a groin injury.
“Kolo Toure has overstretched his groin, so we need to assess that, which doesn’t look so good to be honest,” the manager revealed. “It was obviously disappointing with Cissokho getting injured so early on – he was distraught coming off as you can imagine,” Rodgers added, and also confirmed Martin Skrtel would be fit to face Manchester United on Sunday.
