Liverpool winger Stewart Downing is set to have a medical ahead of a £6m move to West Ham United, according to the Daily
Downing was told by manager Brendan Rodgers that he could leave Anfield early on last season, but then became a regular member of the first-team, scoring five goals in 45 appearances. However, after Liverpool signed Luis Alberto from Sevilla this summer, Downing is once again appearing surplus to requirements.
He was brought to Liverpool by Kenny Dalglish for £20m from Aston Villa in the summer of 2011, but has struggled to impress in his two seasons at the club, who are now preparing for a £14m loss on Downing.
The England international held talks with Hammers boss Sam Allardyce over the weekend, and he will become the third English player to move to Upton Park from Liverpool in 2013, after fellow winger Joe Cole and striker Andy Carroll, who made his loan move permanent.
Allardyce has also signed Shakhtar Donetsk defender Razvan Rat, Real Betis goalkeeper Adrien, and young Stockport County striker Danny Whitehead.
