Man United are contemplating a move to take former Spurs midfielder Luka Modric to Old Trafford, reports The
The Real Madrid midfielder is thought to have become manager David Moyes’ top transfer target after the new United gaffer missed out on the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas, the former instead leaving Barcelona for Bayern Munich and his ex-team-mate Fabregas now looking set to stay at the Catalan club.
This paves the way for Modric to make a surprise return to the Premier League, around a year after leaving White Hart Lane for the Bernabeu, where the Croatian international cost Los Blancos in the region of £33m.
With Modric having failed to establish himself in Spain last season under the tutelage of now-Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, he is thought to be disenchanted with life on the continent and may be open to a return to the English top-flight.
United are likely to have to stump up at least £25m to get any business done, but Moyes is determined to make a hard working, goal scoring midfielder his first major piece of business as United boss, and with Alcantara and Fabregas now seemingly well off the radar he is likely to focus all of his attention on capturing the 27-year-old ahead of his first Premier League game in charge of the Red Devils, when United travel to Swansea.
Even if a deal is not done by then, Moyes is keen to get some signings made. With only three weeks left in the transfer window, he is well aware of time pressing on and with no less than two midfielders on his shopping list, realises he must act quick.
