With Man United looking set to launch their third and presumably final bid to land Cesc Fabregas, it is understood that David Moyes has identified an alternative should the deal fail to go through, according to The
Bastian Schweinsteiger is the man in question, with reports quietly coming out of Germany that the 29-year-old may not be a part of new boss Pep Guardiola’s long-term plans, and may be sold in order to get some funding for a new-look midfield.
The timing of this news is not likely to escape Fabregas, who has now been implored even by his own manager to make a decision as to whether he would like to move to Old Trafford or stay at Barcelona. With United having now identified an alternative, Fabregas is likely to have to decide sooner rather than later whether he wants to move back to the Premier League and pull on the famous red shirt at Old Trafford or remain at the Nou Camp.
Moyes has looked at other alternatives, with Marouane Fellaini of Everton and Real Madrid midfielder Luca Modric both targets, but Schweinsteiger is likely to prove of real interest. Despite being 29, he could still command a fee in excess of £25m, meaning he would likely prove cheaper than Fabregas – but only just.
