As they appear set to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Gareth Bale, Real Madrid are to make attacking midfielder Mesut Ozil available for £38m, attracting the interest of Manchester United, according to the Daily
Man Utd have been after an attacking midfielder throughout the summer, and they have had two bids rejected for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, who now seems very likely to stay put at the Nou Camp. Manager David Moyes has also failed in his first attempt to sign Marouane Fellaini from his former club Everton.
Ozil joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2010 following some outstanding performances for Germany during that year’s World Cup. Since then, he has gone on to make 142 appearances in all competitions, scoring 24 goals.
Should the deal for Bale be completed, however, manager Carlo Ancelotti would face a selection dilemma at the Bernabeu, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, and Isco also among his attacking options.
And despite being a regular for Germany under Joachim Low, Ozil is still keen to play first-team football regularly this season and thus be sure of a starting place for next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
