Nani eager to stay at Man Utd and fight for starting place

Manchester United winger Luis Nani wants to remain at the club and fight for a starting place under David Moyes, the Guardian has reported.

The Portugal international is also keen to extend his contract with the Premier League champions, the newspaper adds, while Moyes is happy to have Nani in his squad. Talks between the club and the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, have been on and off, however, with Nani making only 21 appearances for United last season.

Nani has also suffered injury problems during the summer, missing United’s tour of Asia due to nose surgery, but he did feature for a United XI in a friendly win over League One side Crewe Alexandra. However, after scoring twice in the win over Crewe, his match ended early with a groin problem that also ruled him out of the Community Shield win over Wigan on Sunday.

But Nani confirmed his desire to remain at United. He said: “ I hope to win the league again and, for my personal wishes, I want to be at my best and score a lot of goals. Like I said, I just need to be at my best and then everything will come together.

Nani moved to united in the summer of 2007 from Sporting Lisbon, and to date has made 215 appearances for the club, scoring 39 goals.
