According to ESPN,
Former Reds boss Rafael Benitez is keen to reunite with Skrtel after already bringing goalkeeper Pepe Reina to Italy on a season-long loan. The Slovakian international has been linked with a move to Napoli throughout the summer, despite current Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insisting that he was not for sale at the end of last season.
Liverpool are short of options at the back, as Skrtel recovers from injury, and with Sebastian Coates a long-term absentee. First-choice pairing Daniel Agger and Kolo Toure are the only senior central defenders available as things stand, although Andre Wisdom could also deputise.
Benitez brought Skrtel to Merseyside back in January 2008, and has largely been first-choice, making 206 appearances, and receiving the club’s Player of the Year award in 2011-12. However, since January, the 28-year-old has fallen down the pecking order, leading Benitez to make enquiries and register his interest.
