New Man City boss Pellegrini inspires Dzeko

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko has told of how new manager Manuel Pellegrini has given him a confidence boost, ESPN, has reported, with the Bosnian showing impressive goalscoring form in pre-season.

Dzeko has found the net four times in City’s friendlies, with two goals in Wednesday’s 5-3 victory over Milan. And despite two big money signings in attack this summer, Alvaro Negredo being brought in from Sevilla and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic arriving for £24m, Pellegrini has claimed that Dzeko will be first choice for the coming season.

The 27-year-old was often a frustrated figure under former City boss Roberto Mancini, with Sergio Aguero and the recently departed Carlos Tevez regularly preferred. He still managed to score 15 goals in league and cup last season, many of which came from the bench.

But the appointment of Pellegrini has given Dzeko newfound confidence. He explained: “I feel different, better. I just feel that I have more confidence and that the manager gives me more confidence and that is an important thing. I feel different because someone who is important has trust in you and that is good.
