Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has revealed he and Mike Ashley, the club’s owner, have a plan in place for making the most of the final week of the transfer window, according to the
Pardew suggested that the Magpies will wait and see how Yohan Cabaye’s proposed move to Arsenal works out after the Gunners made a £12m approach for the midfield playmaker. Cabaye missed Newcastle’s Monday defeat to Manchester City following the offer from Arsenal and it is not yet known if he will feature for Newcastle against West Ham on Saturday.
“We wanted to make sure we had a game plan going to the final week of the window,” Pardew said, adding: “We are the sort of club where we aren’t in that bracket where we can dictate a transfer. Sometimes we have to respond because of the position we are in.
“We don’t have the luxuries of Tottenham or Liverpool,” the manager continued. “So for us, we are poised and waiting to see what happens. We want to make sure we bring in one or two players who affect our first team.”
Pardew also dismissed suggestions Shola Ameobi would join Championship side Queens Park Rangers, admitting that while the club will consider offers for all their players, it has to be a move in the best interest of all parties and that wasn’t the case for Ameobi.
