Newcastle vs Fulham – Match preview and team news

After being severely tested by League Two opposition in the Capital One Cup during the week, Newcastle United and Fulham meet in the Premier League.

Two late goals saw the Magpies past Morecambe, although they have not yet found the net in the league. Indeed, they failed to muster a shot on target against West Ham, and there is plenty of negativity surrounding the club at present, highlighted by the lack of new signings. Newcastle will see this as a must win game.

Fulham scraped past a determined Burton Albion on penalties on Tuesday, and they return to the North East after picking up maximum points at Sunderland on the opening day. However, they were comfortably beaten at home by Arsenal, which may have been slightly concerning for boss Martin Jol.

Newcastle are without Cheick Tiote and Jonas Gutierrez because of injury, while Loic Remy could make the substitute’s bench as he recovers from a calf problem. Steven Taylor completes a three match ban after his sending off at Manchester City, and Yohan Cabaye’s participation is in doubt, with the Frenchman intent on leaving the club.

David Stockdale will continue in goal for Fulham in the absence of Maarten Stekelenburg, while new signing Fernando Amorebieta, along with Kieran Richardson, also misses out.
