After losing to the 10 men of Hull City last week, and putting six past Bury in the Capital One Cup, Norwich City face a Southampton side who have made an encouraging start to their second season back in the Premier League.
There was disappointment for Chris Hughton at the KC Stadium as his side failed to break newly-promoted Hull’s stubborn resistance. But as it was last season, their home form will contribute significantly to how they fare this time around. However, they now look a more entertaining team to watch.
Southampton have secured four points from a possible six thanks to two late goals. They eventually managed to earn a point against Sunderland, before winning convincingly against Barnsley on Tuesday. Despite some big money signings this summer, Mauricio Pochettino has given considerable playing time to promising youngsters, and they have flourished.
Johan Elmander might be given his first league start for Norwich after scoring twice against Bury. Elliott Bennett, and new signing Gary Hooper are both out, while defender Ryan Bennett will be assessed after picking up a knock.
Mauricio Pochettino could choose to hand a full debut to record signing Pablo Osvaldo, while defensive duo Nathaniel Clyne and Maya Yoshida could start after returning from injury at Barnsley. Steven Davis and Gaston Ramirez are also in contention.
