Laurent Blanc, newly-appointed Coach of Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, has confirmed he is still interested in signing Newcastle United playmaker Yohan Cabaye, Sky
Blanc has spoken publically of his interest in Cabaye before, drawing a rebuke from Magpies boss Alan Pardew, but that has not stopped the former Manchester United defender from discussing Cabaye again.
“He is a very good player. I have not changed my mind (about him),” Blanc is quoted as saying. “For now, he is at Newcastle. I have also read he is in Tottenham’s plans,” Blanc continued, adding: “Newcastle, Tottenham or Paris – I hope he will still be at a big club in September.”
PSG have spent almost £100m on transfers this summer, with Blanc’s comments on Cabaye suggesting the spending is not yet over in the French capital – although Pardew may not be encouraged to sell Cabaye after criticising Blanc for speaking publically once before.
A month ago, Pardew said in response: “I don’t think that’s right. He can get on the phone to me, or make a bid. I think that’s the right way to do it. I think the way it’s come out isn’t perhaps respectful to Yohan.”
Cabaye has been at Newcastle since the summer of 2011, moving to Tyneside from Lille, having helped the club to the Ligue 1 title. He has gone on to make 73 appearances in Newcastle colours, scoring 11 goals.
