Alan Pardew is sure Newcastle will make a new addition in the very near future, ESPN
Pardew did not divulge the name of the player that will be parading the Newcastle shirt, only that he was confident the people responsible for new signings were making progress. “ I’m hoping something happens before Rangers,” Pardew told local newspaper the Journal. Newcastle play Rangers in a friendly on August 6.
“I think that’s a realistic deadline for my team in the background to hopefully get something done,” Pardew added. “You can only be as confident as the feeling that you’re getting, and the feeling I’m getting at the moment is we’re pursuing and at the end of the day we’ll get something.”
Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis is rumoured to be the player to whom Pardew is referring, after Gomis reiterated that he wanted to leave his current club this summer and placing the blame for the delay in his move to Newcastle on the Lyon chairman, Jean-Michel Aulas, demanding too high a transfer fee.
Pardew continued: “All I would say is that we’re keeping our options open regarding strikers because we can only do a deal that’s right. If a deal is right we’ll do it, if a deal’s not right we won’t do it.”
The 52-year-old added he is not concerned about the time it has taken for Newcastle to reach this stage in regards to transfers – and nor is he worried about his preferred targets moving elsewhere before Newcastle act. “I’m not concerned about any of them slipping away,” he said.
“I think that we are in the market still. We will pay what we think is the right price. We’ve done that ever since we have been here. We have always managed to get somebody over the line and I think we will this time.”
