Goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who is on loan at Napoli from Liverpool, has welcomed speculation linking the Reds’ Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel with a move to the Italian side this summer, according to Sky
Skrtel fell out of favour under Brendan Rodgers last season, making just two starts after Liverpool’s shock FA Cup exit away to Oldham Athletic in January, after which veteran Jamie Carragher, who has now retired, was often preferred. Manchester City’s Kolo Toure has since been brought in as Carragher’s replacement.
Reina moved to Napoli this summer, reuniting with former boss Rafael Benitez after Rodgers brought Sunderland ‘keeper Simon Mignolet to Anfield, and he would be happy to see Skrtel follow him to Italy.
He said: “I don’t know what Napoli are looking for but I can say Martin Skrtel is a good player. But he is a Liverpool player. His qualities would be great for any team and he is a great player. I respect Liverpool, Martin Skrtel and all of the Napoli players, so I can’t say anything more about this.”
