Horst Heldt, the general manager of Schalke 04, has refused to comment on speculation linking his club with a move for Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski, Sky
After signing for Arsenal from Cologne last summer, Podolski was initially a regular starter, but in recent months he has often been left on the bench by Arsene Wenger in favour of Olivier Giroud. The 28-year-old’s contract does not run out until the summer of 2016. In his time at Arsenal, Podolski has scored 16 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions.
Podolski has recently been linked a return to Germany, where he spent his entire career before moving to the Emirates Stadium, with a spell at Bayern Munich either side of two with Cologne. Heldt, however is not commenting on the gossip. He said: “I am unable to make any statement on this rumour at this point in time.”
Schalke, like Arsenal, are currently involved in Champions League qualifying, drawing 1-1 with Greek side PAOK Solonika on Wednesday.
